Welcome to the Guardians CCG Page

This is a site dedicated to the Guardians collectible card game released by FPG in the mid '90s. This was a great game featuring beautiful artwork and a complex battle system. The game is now out of print and some cards are extremely difficult to find.

Here you will find alternate rules and game mods (including solo play), homebrew cards, and links to other Guardians sites.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if C.J. originally envisioned an actual shark, or if it was more like a western/cowboy card dealer...

I don't remember what I had in mind, but it's External and classless, and not Mortal and Misc. Human.

And given the usual Guardians puns, yeah, this is probably what I was thinking.

When I first saw the picture, I thought it was another joke card -- and then I reread the text and thought, "Now that could be useful!"

The question is does it allow you to exceed the 30 Vitality limit? Or can you only make the exchange if you adhere to that limit? So if your Shield was at 30 Vitality already, you would only be able to swap with an 8 Vitality or less?

Or is it a case of when a card's text contradicts the rules, you follow the card text? I'd love to swap the Card Shark for a Dragon Wing Lord for sure!

Fun fact: I altered the artwork slightly. If you look closely, I replaced the standard playing cards in the shark's fin with Guardians cards. It will be easier to spot when there's a high res version available. I probably shouldn't have done it, but I thought it would be funny...

You could exceed the limit. There are other examples of this in Guardians, although none are coming to mind right now. However, you would still have a 30 Vitality limit at the end of the combat, so if too many creatures survived, you'd have to discard down under 30.

You can make some great substitutions -- but you would have to manipulate your Up Card first to be what you wanted at just the right time.
