Welcome to the Guardians CCG Page

This is a site dedicated to the Guardians collectible card game released by FPG in the mid '90s. This was a great game featuring beautiful artwork and a complex battle system. The game is now out of print and some cards are extremely difficult to find.

Here you will find alternate rules and game mods (including solo play), homebrew cards, and links to other Guardians sites.

Champion's Odyssey is complete

Well, it's finished. 100 cards. I didn't think I would make it.

It was a lot of work but it was fun. I learned a lot about Photoshop. I even bought a Wacom tablet to paint with.

Are some cards too powerful? Assuredly. Are some useless? Possibly. Without playtesting we'll never know. But if someone does use these and has feedback, I'd love to hear it.

Hi!
It’s me, again. This comment won’t be short, but I hope, you will take my opinion as a help, not as a criticism. I really appreciate your work, honestly.

I really liked the Stronghold, and the vierkun is also good-balanced, in my opinion.

Generally, about the whole expansion, I feel some unbalanced parts.

-Too much big creature, and too many small. This is not a problem, but it exist, though.

-Already, the Undead class was the largest, now, it's even more powerful. The new terrain is a huge gain for them also.
If somebody uses the seven-seas, the Undeads in that are also powerful (lead by the "Northern Dragon").

I also have to admit, the work in the cards can be well-seen. Good choose of artwork, and many many good cards.

-I really liked the "artist-killer" cards (ex. Ned). It's a good base idea.

-The Sand Howler should get the same positive bonus in Dry Heaps, in my opinion.

-The night watchman is a top, top card, and the Dracolich also.

-I used to miss the creatures for spires terrain. The razors streghtened, and some other creatures also get bonuses on Spires. That's very good.

-As I said before, the Destroying Angel is too strong in his current form. My solution is in the posts of the card.
The card is as strong as Spirit of the Hunt.

-Zeenah, and Stanley are very stong cards. The knight should be the base in many decks. Stanley is the missing link for the Baynard Animal deck. I really wanted to try out what’s in it, and I have to reconsider it all the time. This card can solve the major problem.

I saw many good inventions also, but these are the most eye-catching ones for me.

I think, some other classes of the game should have more part in the expansion. If you need help, advise, or just another opinion, I’d be glad to help you. I feel the potence in the project, and if I can help to achieve something serious, I’d be happy.

My E-Mail is: peteradam@vipmail.hu

We should have discussions, if you’re interested in it.

Bests,

-I don't really think that there are too many small creatures. However, as to the big creatures, yes, Poci is right.

-To tell the truth, I agree with Poci in Undeads' current statuses as well.

-If the "artist-killers" (as Poci would say) were in an Artists Battle... ^^

-Wraith Lord and Priestess of kaukat, like Destroying Angel are extremely strong. They need to be discussed, yes. But I guess that a card have to be, like Zeenah...

Other:
I like Slag Beast deck very much and I have one (I haven't used it for a long time). I reckon that they weren't too "impotent" until the following cards' creatings either:
Peter Pan, Temple of Takuli, Flametongue, Desert Island, The High Stepps. In this way, they can also be very powerful.

Wow, I love the comments! Even if they are critical, that is good. It's hard to design a whole set yourself, so some cards are likely to be out of balance. The nice thing is I have the original Photoshop versions of the cards, so it is easy to make a change to the text.

First, to Poci:

Great feedback. I'll make sure to send you an email, as I would like to discuss some things very much. But some of your comments I can answer now.

"Too much big creature, and too many small."

-Artwork for small creatures is very hard to find, especially when my goal was to use original artists of the game (with a few exceptions).

"Already, the Undead class was the largest, now, it's even more powerful. The new terrain is a huge gain for them also."

-This wasn't done on purpose. The reason this happened is that a good portion of the artwork came from Brom, and the artwork is suited for Undead. If I could have found more Parkinson or Ploog artwork, I don't think it would have been that way. As far as the Terrain, it could be too powerful. I noticed it is missing the text "Undead beaten or destroyed on this space are removed from the game." It is on the Solo card but not the main card. I think this is important because it keeps the player from taking them out of the discard pile and into their deck or hand. Maybe you agree?

-The artist killer cards I borrowed from the Morb's Revenge card...

"As I said before, the Destroying Angel is too strong in his current form. My solution is in the posts of the card."

-I like your solution and will change the card. I didn't think about more than one copy under a Shield!

"I think, some other classes of the game should have more part in the expansion."

-I agree. I just couldn't find the artwork to support it.

To Uakari:

"Wraith Lord and Priestess of kaukat, like Destroying Angel are extremely strong."

-I am open to any suggestions. Wraith Lord I felt should be more powerful than Wraith because of the word "Lord". So Wraith Lord's ability is similar to Wraith but more powerful. Priestess - I liked the artwork, plus Kaukat is an Egyptian Goddess tied to serpents, which fits nicely with Necropolis Park and using Dragons, but I couldn't think of a better ability.

"I like Slag Beast deck very much and I have one (I haven't used it for a long time). I reckon that they weren't too "impotent" until the following cards' creatings either: Peter Pan, Temple of Takuli, Flametongue, Desert Island, The High Stepps. In this way, they can also be very powerful."

-You must be a very good player, you saw the usefulness of those cards right away! :) That is how I tried to balance the set by adding cards that were not so obvious but work well with other types like Slag Beasts.

Hi!

I didn't want to say, but teh Slags are my favourite (Uakari knows it...), and I was very sad, because the seven-seas also passed over this class!

I know, Brom's art is mainly dark. I'll try to find something "lighter". I also found a very good artist, Markus Neidel, but his art is also quite dark. But, his manticore picture can be used as a base of a Slag, just a good name, and some abilities needed. I'll try to find out something.

Oh, I almost forget, we should figure out some new O-Mens! They are funny, but powerful creats....

I noticed the Brom's revenge-thing, but you used it differently. It was a good idea.

I've never played a solo game, yet. We have a small bunch of players, so we can play quite recently. We have competitions too, maybe a total 10-15 players. I know, it's not common....
